He signed up with John the Baptist because he agreed with him that
the end would be relatively soon, with the arrival of the Son of
Man
from heaven to straighten things out. But that's not why he was a
nutcase, as there were a lot of Jews back then who believed the
same.
But after John was thrown into jail, Jesus began his own ministry
and
gathered close disciples. And somewhere along the line, the lunatic
got it in his head that he was the Messiah and that when the Son of
Man showed up, he'd crown Jesus king. Now, Jesus never admitted
this
publicly because he knew it would be suicide, but he did confide it
in his close disciples.
Just a guess, but Judas no doubt figured out at some point that
Jesus
was a fraud and it pissed him off because of the false promises and
because he'd already given up a lot to follow Jesus. So when he got
the chance to earn some money by ratting out Jesus's secret, he did.
This is why christers will never argue a convincing case for a
historical Jesus. Because if they did, they'd have to admit the
reality of the above. As well as many other things that don't fit
their idiotic myth.

Think of Jesus the Christ as the ultimate “Undercover Boss”.
